Hey, that's a clear sign, can't you see? We are trying to push beyond HTTP's capabilities. Indeed, we did it. It's a sign that today's web apps are still building upon the wrong foundation: HTTP and HTML. Instead of wasting our time struggling to create ugly workarounds (like ReverseHTTP), let's start thinking and developing a new foundation for web apps. Something that completely drops HTTP/HTML/Javascript and so on. We need something new, something appropriate.

Sam, touche. ;-) Having said that, not aware of single operating deployment of rss cloud. At least PSHB now has Google behind it.

Heiner: I can appreciate the XMPP architecture - in fact, I'm a big fan. The only problem I see with it is the entry barrier the extra infrastructure and XML parsing it requires to make anything work. I think Google App Engine is a great example of how far you can take simple HTTP interactions in the context of pubsub, queues, etc.

Kunthar: P2P search is a really interesting topic with lots of interesting research. I'm exploring it right now, will report if I find anything insightful. If you have any recommendations, would love to hear them (in terms of papers, sites, etc.)

I imagine a distributed P2P search engine rather then Google centric approach. Data is everywhere, searches are everywhere. What you say on this guys?

Great: add a second one way channel with extra TCP connections to the browser. If Opera is really into bi-directional communication, then why not use XMPP. XMPP has everything they need, including routing and it's the base of Google Wave by the way. Ah, yes, we like HTTP because it is so simple and powerful. And it goes through firewalls. Truth is: you do not know XMPP. You are too much into HTTP.

Ilya: rssClouds is *not* brand new. Dave Winer himself says, "The first rssClouds were implemented in 2001 in Manila and Radio UserLand, two products from my company, UserLand Software. All three sides of the protocol were implemented." (http://rsscloud.org/#briefHistory) Just FYI

XMPP is here, now, works and handles most things you'll need. What could be neater than pub-sub using routed XML?
