Thanks for the detailed list. Do you happen to have any suggestions on running APF on Ubuntu? Or would you suggest to use Shorewall instead? I guess APF is nice because of BFD support, but it doesn't seem to properly install on Ubuntu (but I bet someone made a custom script to patch install.sh).

Hey, nice article

I was just wondering why you're starting off with a distribution like RH and disable everything you dont need? Wouldnt it be easier to start with a distribution that installs only the very basic packages and start installing/configuring what you need? This way round makes more sense to me :)

So: ArchLinux, ftw! :)

@Jon - The usual, school! Trying to stay afloat all the work / working a couple of my own projects / trying to figure out what I want to do after graduation. Got my hands full at the moment! How about yourself, you've got much left in school?

@Jess - You know me, I'm a CS guy and I love it. ;) This semester is going well, I'm doing some really interesting courses - got good proff's for every course, which always helps! Though, judging by your blog, I still doubt it's as exciting as your time at York. ;)

Hey Ilya! Haha as always, your blog entries are always so technical and full of code. You're the constant reminder why I hated ECE courses.

Missing you lots! What's your term like this year?

Mjo, good point. I've updated the telnet instructions and a few other similar cases throughout the guide.

Hopefully no one's editing their xinetd.confs without a basic understanding of the words "disabled," "yes," and "no," but you might want to fix the disabling telnet instructions just in case.
